Quick mod instructions. No more details will follow. Wish I
had time for pics and more details, but am busy.
I installed the tail light cover from Highway Hawk (part #
661-112). It goes pretty well with NightMare's paint scheme.
Gives her sort of a "Flash Gordon" space ship look to
go with the space theme. But, I was disappointed a little with
it. The interior of the tail light has a parabolic mirror
reflector in it which serves to project the light rearward. If
you just have a regular tail light & no cover, you don't
notice that there is no light coming from the top and sides of
the lens. But, when you put this light cover on, the open spaces
above and on the sides are DARK. Very dark. Very noticable. All
you have is a tombstone light. That needed fixed IMHO, and the
fix is easy if you can solder.
Get a Sylvania # 2825 ($1.69 pair) light bulb. It's the same one
you use in your instrument lights. Get some 20 guage wire and cut
two five inch pigtails and strip about 1/2" each end.
Straighten out the little tails that come out of the glass on the
bulb and expand them so they are loops. Insert stripped ends into
the loops and wind them up a little. Solder (you wind because
solder will not stick to the bulb loops) then insulate with
shrink or tape. Remove your tail light lens. Drill a little hole
in the plastic light housing behind the parabola so that you can
run your pigtails in through to where the wires are. Remove the
bolts holding the housing to the fender and pull your light out
so you can get to the wires. Put one of your pigtails into the
green connector and one into the green with stripe connector.
Turn on the key to test.
If the new light lights, bolt the housing back on. Now, feed the
pigtails into the housing so they aren't hanging inside the lens
and situate the light so that the filament will be directly in
the center on top behind the parabola. Silicon in place. Replace
lens and cover. Now, when you turn on the lights, you'll have
light shining out from those dark spaces! Looks great!
